Advanced Design and Function of Layers and Laminates

Layer and laminate manufacture is a generic technique to be used in the production of components for a number of applications within the ceramic field. Some examples are multilayer circuit boards, actuators, sensors, membranes, structural laminates, gradient material, catalysts and fuel cells. SCI has been working on this technique for many years, primarily focusing on the development of the more healthful aqueous-based tape-casting systems.

To meet the interests of as many companies as possible, the project aims at being of a more fundamental nature. We will develop concepts for both aqueous-based and organic solvent systems and make detailed comparison studies between them. The project will be carried out in close cooperation with the "Dispersion & Rheology" project .

One of SCI's objectives of the project is to master a commercial organic binder system, to be able to produce larger quantities of high-quality tapes for various purposes. Another objective is to produce laminate structures for certain components. The company member will decide upon which components to choose.
